news hardware Electric car: the new Polestar 3 SUV wants to outshine Mercedes and BMW
This Wednesday, October 12, the Swedish manufacturer Polestar presented its new electric SUV to the general public: the Polestar 3. With this model, the Volvo subsidiary wants to climb a little further in the electric car market.
While we are still eagerly awaiting Polestar’s arrival in France, the Swedish manufacturer presented this Wednesday, October 12, its new electric SUV, the Polestar 3. For those who wonder why this manufacturer still does not sell its vehicles in France, it is simply because the latter was still faced some time ago with Citroën in a legal battle, because of the similarity that exists between the two logos. Fortunately for the Swedes and unfortunately for the French, who won was Polestar, which suggests the imminent arrival of the brand’s vehicles on our soil. And when we see what this Polestar 3 looks like, we can’t wait!
With this new electric car, Polestar wants to compete with the best
To start, we are talking here about one of the largest autonomies on the market. While this still needs to be confirmed with WLTP tests, Polestar guarantees that its new electric SUV will be able to reach 610 kilometers of autonomy. This is, in part, made possible by its enormous 111 kWh battery. To give you an idea, it is superior to the Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ and identical to the more powerful versions of the BMW iX.
Beside this gigantic battery, the SUV also has a 483 horsepower engine that achieves a torque of 840 Nm. These characteristics are those of the initial offer, sinceStarting in the second quarter of 2023, Polestar will also offer a Performance Pack in its SUV that will increase its power to 510 horsepower and torque to 910 Nm..
On the performance side, the Polestar 3 will be able to do from 0 to 100 km/h in 5 seconds and in 4.7 seconds with the future Performance Pack. The SUV will also be able to reach the maximum speed of 210 km/hwhich puts it ahead of the BMW iX xDrive50 (200 km/h) and on a par with the Mercedes EQS SUV. In the case of the two German vehicles, 0 to 100 km/h is done in 4.6 seconds. – slightly better than the Polestar 3 Performance Pack.
Polestar 3: an ultra-equipped electric car at a very high price
Let’s start right away with what matters most: your price. The Polestar 3 SUV should be sold for €89,900, which puts it directly in the ++ category. Suffice it to say that this electric car will not be a vehicle that we will find every day on the street, far from it. But whoever says high price, also says high-end equipment!
Polestar is proud to its electric SUV will be the first to feature the NVIDIA DRIVE processor, Volvo software and a Qualcomm Snapdragon Cockpit platform to manage the infotainment system and all the data received by the crazy list of sensors, radars and cameras they dispatched in and out of the vehicle. Unlike Tesla, Polestar does not intend to abandon the use of ultrasonic sensors, on the contrary. In all, the SUV includes five radar modules, five external cameras and two more in the cabin and twelve external ultrasonic sensors in its standard version..
The panel will consist of a nine-inch screen; for the infotainment system, it will have a 14.5-inch center screen that will run on Android Automotive, Google’s operating system. To listen to music in the best conditions, we found a 25-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system with 3D surround sound and Dolby Atmos technology. As you may have understood, this SUV is not intended for everyone, however, with this model, Polestar is entering a market where it could very well succeed.
