And on the sidelines of the Paris 2022 World Cup

“And on the sidelines of the 2022 World Cup”…

Why this section? Because there are a lot of new products this fall, and you can certainly expect to see them all on our “Mondial de l’auto” mini site, where you traditionally find new models from all manufacturers.

However, several manufacturers have chosen not to be present at this edition of the Paris Motor Show 2022, a certain number of new products will not be displayed at the Porte de Versailles in Paris, and in particular the one presented in this article. In order to give you an exhaustive overview and meet your expectations, we have chosen to publish them on the Caradisiac mini-site dedicated to the Paris Motor Show, but in a special section “And on the sidelines of the Paris Motor Show”.

When Peugeot introduced the new third-generation 308 last year, the lion brand specified that a 100% electric version would enter the catalog from 2023. So here is this zero-emission 308 a little ahead of its time, finally ushering in a new one. power train that is more powerful and generous in terms of batteries than that currently used in the group’s city cars and the Citroën e-C4. While the compact chevron brand is content with a 136 horsepower engine and 50 kWh batteries, the Peugeot E-308 has a 156 horsepower generator (still with 260 Nm of torque). This engine is powered by bigger batteries… but not much bigger: gross capacity of 54 kWh (with net capacity of 51 kWh). The Volkswagen ID.3 and other Cupra Born can go up to 77 kWh, the Renault Mégane E-Tech at 60 kWh, the Nissan Leaf at 62 kWh and the Kia e-Niro at 64 kWh. The lion brand therefore chooses to limit the size of the battery, which is made up of 80% nickel, 10% manganese and 10% cobalt.

Fortunately, Peugeot also announces a consumption of 12.7 kWh/100 km in mixed use, “a record in the compact electric car category” according to the manufacturer. This very low value makes it possible to officially exceed 400 kilometers, knowing that the WLTP approval is still in progress. Bear in mind, however, that a Cupra Born VZ XL claims 550 km and that a basic Tesla Model 3 displays 491 km on its datasheet. On the charging side, the E-308 offers the same possibilities as the small electric cars from Peugeot, Opel and DS: 100 kW in fast charging and 11 kW in alternating current. Given the limited battery capacity, there will always be enough to go from 20 to 80% in 25 minutes on high power terminals.

The E-308 will only be available in Allure and GT finishes. Peugeot doesn’t give the prices yet, but for comparison, a Citroën e-C4 with inferior mechanics starts at €41,150 in a high finish. The current 308 is trading from €40,750 in its Allure-finished plug-in hybrid version and €45,450 in its 225-horsepower version. That suggests a price midway between these two references for the E-308. Note that a Cupra Born with large batteries costs €46,500…

Caradisiac, partner of the Paris Motor Show

As in 2018, Caradisiac is once again a partner in 2022 of the Mondial de l’Auto which will take place in Paris from 17 to 23 October. Caradisiac’s editorial team will therefore be moved to its own stand during the fair to analyse, dissect, photograph and film all the new models. And of course this will also be an opportunity for you to come, as you are used to, to meet our journalists. Which new or used car to buy? They will answer all your questions. Until then, we will give you in Caradisiac all the information we could get from the manufacturers about their new models.
