An electrifying surprise in the ID. Treffen held in Locarno: Volkswagen presents the ID model in Ticino. XTREME, an exceptional off-road concept that will not fail to arouse the enthusiasm of the many fans of electric mobility present at the event. The 100% electric all-wheel drive concept, based on the ID.4 GTX, combines the qualities of a modern SUV with those of a rugged all-terrain model designed for off-the-rail adventures.

The identification. Volkswagen’s XTREME is synonymous with excitement and the pursuit of adventure. The concept was created by the team of Andreas Reckewerth (head of the MEB platform inside the vehicles) within the Volkswagen Development department. “The Modular Electric Platform (MEB) offers tremendous technical potential,” says Silke Bagschik, Line Manager for vehicles based on the MEB platform. “For many of our customers, cars are more than just a means of transport. With identification. XTREME, we take VW electric mobility to a new level of performance. The result of the project is a unique off-road model that impresses both with its robust lines and its exceptional power potential.

A high-performance engine at the rear axle and software adaptations in the engine control unit increase the concept car’s accumulated power by 65 kW compared to the ID.4 GTX, bringing the total power to 285 kW, a gain of 30 %. “The ID. XTREME is designed by Volkswagen enthusiasts, for ID model enthusiasts, here in Locarno. We are really looking forward to hearing how electromobility enthusiasts will react to this model. Depending on the reactions of our community, we will decide whether to proceed with the project. ”, adds Silke Bagschik.

The exterior of the VW ID. The XTREME testifies to the off-road character of the car, ready for all off-the-rail adventures. A raised rally chassis, 18-inch off-road wheels, modified crash protection with additional front bumper and 3D-printed 50mm flared fenders give the car a complete silhouette. Roof bars with additional LED lighting and a fully armored aluminum underbody also equip the all-electric all-wheel drive model, designed for off-road getaways.

The identification. The XTREME is also distinguished by its sound signature: the sound emitted by the vehicle was developed in collaboration with Volkswagen Design especially for this concept car. It is returned to the outside by a sound generator in the wheel arch. Inside, the concept is distinguished by numerous details, in particular the presence of numerous finishing elements in Alcantara, a redesigned seat and contrasting orange elements. The identification. The XTREME matches the other models in the range in terms of durability: an end-of-life test vehicle, taken from production model development, and a used 82 kWh battery were reused to make the concept car.

Volkswagen presents the ID. XTREME to the public for the first time at the ID event. Treffen, which takes place in Locarno. This event organized by and for electric mobility enthusiasts takes place for the second time this year and could become the green and sustainable event dedicated to electromobility, like the meeting organized in Wörthersee (Austria) for fans of the brand’s GTI models.
