On the sidelines of the Historic Monaco Grand Prix, Mercedes presented the AMG Vision show car a few days ago. A show car that foreshadows the next generation of cars from AMG, the sports division of the brand with the star. For some time now, Mercedes has been firing on all cylinders when it comes to electric vehicles and is releasing several models. However, it lacked a sports car to compete with the Porsche Taycan and Audi RS E-Tron GT. Until now, AMG has only offered plug-in hybrids like the GT 63 SE Performance. As of now, AMG is also clearly moving towards electric. The Mercedes Vision AMG announces a vehicle that will be launched in 2025-2026. With this showcar, he offers a first glimpse of how he transfers AMG’s DNA into the brand’s all-electric future.
A concept car that stimulates desire
Earlier this year at CES in Las Vegas, Mercedes had already unveiled an electric concept car, the Vision EQXX. A vehicle designed for travel, with the mission of taking autonomy and efficiency to a new level. A mission accomplished with a range of 1,000 km thanks to the extensive optimization of its aerodynamics, battery and weight. With the Mercedes Vision AMG, AMG reveals its sporty interpretation of the EQXX, taking performance luxury a step further. According to the Design Director of the Mercedes-Benz AG Group Gorden Wagener : ” The result is an electric supercar, a style icon that drives desire – and that’s exactly what sets a luxury sports car apart. »
Technical characteristics to be specified
Unlike the Vision EQXX, which demonstrated its performance on the road, the Vision AMG is still in the mockup phase. Most of its components are still under development and Mercedes has not communicated their technical characteristics. However, AMG has high ambitions in terms of engine and transmission technology. ” A revolutionary technology with which we will take performance electric mobility to a whole new level » announces its CEO Philipp Schiemer. The Vision AMG will be based on the modular AMG.EA architecture that will form the basis for all electric sports cars produced in Affalterbach. In its workshops, AMG will also develop high-voltage batteries and drive technology. A British subsidiary of Mercedes-Benz, YASA will manufacture an engine that will deliver significantly more power than conventional electric motors. An innovative axial flux motor that offers compactness, high efficiency and high energy density.
a futuristic look
The Vision AMG’s design maintains the brand’s DNA, marked by its search for emotion and its ingenious aerodynamic characteristics. At the same time, certain elements translate an evolution of its language towards sensual purity. The sporty proportions are particularly evident with the oversized wheelbase or the rear section set back upwards. Proportions that express sensual purity with distinctive sports car traits such as the widely flared wheel arches and broadly muscled rear shoulders. The grille emphasizes the Vision AMG’s futuristic look with its light bars and three-dimensional exterior contour. Three LED elements form a stylized Mercedes star that is immediately apparent, day and night. At the rear, on each side, three LED rings are positioned in cylindrical tubes. Here too, the little stars beckon the Mercedes brand.
Links to Formula 1
Other visual details highlight the direct connection to the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula 1 team. These include the silver paintwork with a large-format star pattern that can be found on the rear flanks. Other turn signals with functional elements in exposed carbon fiber or the aerodynamic design of the 22-inch wheels. Wheels with Pirelli tires with white lettering incorporating the AMG logo. The high-tech sporty design reinforces the futuristic character of the Vision AMG. The four-door configuration also indicates that the show car offers a taste of a functional electric car of the future. Despite the battery in the car’s floor between the axles, the Vision AMG is considerably lower than the EQS. Thanks to its smartly designed interior floor, it offers plenty of space for four people.
