Château de Rambouillet and Déménagements Jumeau join forces for an upcoming exhibition by photographer Michael Kenna

This is a first for the Château de Rambouillet. Isabelle de Gourcuff, administrator of the Rambouillet National Heritage, has just signed a skills sponsorship agreement with Déménagements Jumeau, a moving and logistics company historically based in Châteaudun in Eure-et-Loir.

This partnership is materialized in the next exhibition organized at the Château de Rambouillet, from September 30th to January 9th, around the photographs of Michael Kenna and entitled Voyage en France.

What will the mission of Déménagements Jumeau be?

Déménagements Jumeau will transport, free of charge, the works of the British photographer, who currently lives in the United States, from the Hôtel de Sully, in Paris, to the Château de Rambouillet. Taken largely from Michael Kenna’s personal archives, the photographs will first be transported, in July, to Saint-Dié-des-Vosges (Vosges), where the artist’s official framer is located.

Château de Rambouillet will travel across Europe

Carriers will pick them up in September to bring them to Château de Rambouillet. They will intervene one last time in January 2023, once the exhibition is over, to return the precious photos to the Hôtel de Sully.

A job that requires professionalism, as Marc-Antoine Métais, General Manager of Déménagements Jumeau, confesses:

“Transporting works of art requires very special know-how in terms of packaging and handling. Moving is real work that can be learned in two years and leads to specializations. We have no room for error when transporting works of art or national treasures. »

The company is used to this kind of exercise: it regularly works in private or public castles, especially when they are used for filming. She also worked with the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines museum, but her skills in this area are little known to the general public.

What is the benefit of this skills sponsorship?

“This sponsorship with Château de Rambouillet should help us to spread the word about what we know how to do”, hopes Marc-Antoine Métais. “It is also interesting for us to support projects that go beyond the monument. Château de Rambouillet has a very strong cultural policy compared to other places. »

For Isabelle de Gourcuff, administrator of the Rambouillet National Heritage, this partnership can only be beneficial.

Château de Rambouillet reveals its spring program

“Since 2017, the castle has been displayed on the Déménagements Jumeau truck, which travels across Europe. This is another step towards our goal of bringing the public to this former presidential residence. Having a headliner like Michael Kenna also means making our castle known. »

Fifty years of photos. Fifty years of passion for France is what visitors to the Château de Rambouillet will be able to discover from September 30 to January 9, 2023, in the marble salon and in the fitting room. A passion that the British photographer Michael Kenna immortalized through fifty artistic black and white photographs in small format and five large formats taken especially for the Rambolita exhibition. In 2018, Michael Kenna, whose work is internationally recognized and celebrated, was given carte blanche by the Center des monuments nationaux (CMN) to photograph the megalithic alignments of Carnac (Morbihan) and the Rambouillet National Estate. It is part of this work, taken from his personal archives, that he will exhibit, alongside the most beautiful monuments of Paris, Mont Saint-Michel, etc.
