Created in March 2021, the Toy Workshop, based in Roubaixcollect and clean toys before resell at low prices. The objective: to employ eight employees in integration. After one year of existence, the company wants to grow but for that looking for volunteers creative!

If you’re into toys and the circular economy, you’ve probably heard of Atelier du toy, which offers used toys. The company has several collection points in Lille and held a pop-up shop in Westfield-Euralille in December 2021.

It is currently found every first Saturday of the month for a third-place third-place sale in Roubaix, inside the Leclerc mall.

8 employees in integration

The Toy Workshop is only one year old and has 8 employees back to work, mainly women. How does this office work? A real circuit was set up, as explained by Guillaume Doye, head of the integration company.

“We need to get the toys back first. Collection boxes have been installed in several places in the Lille metropolitan area.

Sorting, cleaning, but not repairing

So it’s sorting. “We classified according to toy categories. Some items must be taken to the recycling center or given to other partners, such as Bouquinerie du Sart.” Then comes the cleaning.

But attention, the workshop does not deal with repairs. “This requires entering into overly restrictive standards in terms of security. We check the condition of each toy. If the board game boxes are damaged, we keep to the rules of the game and put in another packaging. We can also work on ‘reassembly’, that is, with two games that are missing parts, we redo a complete one…”

The next step is the referencing of each toy, the monitoring of the process, in a computerized database, before the sale, in different places, with animation of the stand. And finally, at the end of the chain comes inventory management.

The toy makes it possible to reach a very complete panel of crafts, and very rewarding for employees!

Born of an integration specialist

How was the Toy Workshop born? The framework doesn’t start from scratch: it is one of the “branchs” of an integration specialist, the Grand Angle framework, which runs the ARI (Atelier Roubaix Insertion, which works with school websites) in Roubaix and Angle-Interm’aide in Touring.

Graduated in social and solidarity economy after a career in mass distribution and later in the city of Valenciennes, Guillaume Doye discovered integration in 2019 at the Jardin de chlorophylle site, which also depends on ARI. He joined the team to accompany the start of the Toy Workshop.

What future?

How should the Toy Store evolve? Managers are asking questions, because the questions are endless and competition is growing. “We don’t have a website, this could be interesting. We ask ourselves how our economic model should evolve: should we specialize in cheap or collector toys? Should we develop pop-up stores? What marketing to use? » explains Marc Sockeel, director of Grand Angle.

To advance, the Toy Workshop is looking for volunteers who are passionate about toys or have specific skills (communication, creativity, etc.); and places.
